Outdoor Focus is a fully affiliated SSI Instructor Training Centre. Our 7 day Instructor Training Course (ITC) will enhance your retail business and industry knowledge, expand your teaching skills and add professional presentation/sales experience through modern workshops and practical applications.
After the Instructor Training Course (ITC), there is a 2 day assessment called the Instructor Evaluation (IE). Following a successful evaluation, candidates will earn themselves the accolade of Open Water Instructor.
The Open Water Instructor´s mission is to inspire and influence beginners to grow in their diving experiences with the goal of making them committed divers.
As an Open Water Instructor you can teach and issue certifications for Indoor Diver, Scuba Diver, Junior Open Water Diver, Open Water Diver, Advanced Adventurer, Scuba Skills Update, Try Scuba, Try Scuba Diving, Enriched Air Nitrox, and Diver Stress & Rescue.
To enrol on an Instructor Training Course, the following pre-requisites apply:
- Minimum age 18 years
- Have a diving medical exam by a licensed medical practitioner
- Own your own dive gear of professional type and quality
- Be certified as an active Dive Control Specialist or equivalent
- Logged no less than 75 open water dives

As a Dive Control Specialist you can lead and guide certified divers, assist SSI Instructors in the classroom, pool and open water, teach skills in the classroom and pool under the indirect supervision of an SSI Instructor (except the emergency skills), teach the SSI Scuba Skills Update program, the SSI Snorkeling programme, and the SSI Try Scuba programme.
To join one of our Dive Control Specialist programmes, the following pre-requisites apply:
- You must be at least 18 years of age
- Have a diving medical exam by a licensed medical practitioner
- You must own your own dive gear of professional type and quality
- Be certified as a Divemaster or equivalent
- Logged no less than 60 open water dives
